Our guide to Boccia with six months to go until Paralympics

It’s six months and counting until the curtain rises on the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Here’s our whistlestop tour to all things boccia at the Paralympics.

 When are the Paralympics?

The 2024 Paralympics Games start on 28 August with an opening ceremony and finish on 8 September. The boccia kicks off on the first day of competition – the 29 August – and ends on 5 September.

View the competition timetable.

Where will the boccia take place?

Boccia will take place at the South Paris Arena which is part of Paris Expo, an exhibition and conference centre. It’s just 15 minutes from the Eiffel Tower and it will be a major hub for the Games. Table Tennis and goalball will also take place here.

Here’s a map of all the competition venues.

 How many athletes will compete?

In boccia, there are 124 qualification slots across 11 events.

Who will compete for Great Britain?

We know that our BC1/2 Team has qualified and our BC3s and BC4s now head to Portugal in March for the final qualifying events in a bid to secure a spot. We have put together more information about where we stand with qualification.

 Can I still get tickets?

Yes! Head to the official Paris 2024 ticketing website. And make sure you pack your Union Jack flags!

I can’t go. How can I watch the Paralympics on the telly?

Channel 4 will once again be broadcasting the Paralympic Games.

How did Great Britain’s boccia players perform in Tokyo 2020 Paralympics?

David Smith OBE won gold in the BC1 individual event. Scott McCowan also delivered a stand-out performance, finishing in an agonisingly close fourth place in the BC3 individuals.

What’s new about boccia at the Paris Paralympic Games?

For the first time ever, men and women compete in separate events in the individuals.
